Getting Gum Out
Here are some proven ways to remove gum. Depending on your situation, some methods will work better than others.
Removal of Gum with Boiling Water
This would have to be my favorite method, but please don’t try this if the gum is embedded in your hair! This only works if the gum is stuck in a spot that can manage the heat of boiling water. When pouring a little bit of boiling water over gum, the gum quickly melts and can be removed easily. A toothbrush works well in helping with the removal of the melted gum. (Caution: boiling water can cause severe burns to your skin.)
Remove Gum with Ice
You can use ice to freeze the gum and then chip it off. This method can be a little more time consuming, but can be helpful. If the gum is stuck on your shirt, feel free to throw it in the freezer for a an hour.
Using Peanut Butter to Remove Gum
Cover the gum completely with Peanut Butter and let it sit for 5 minutes. Peanut butter helps break down the sugars in the gum, which will make the gum begin to crumble and be easier to remove. This actually works fairly well, now you just need to clean the peanut butter up. The Peanut Butter should clean up fairly easy as long as you clean it up right away.
Removing Gum with Baby Oil
Oil works in the same way that peanut butter works, but you need to be careful what you apply it to. If you have gum stuck in your carpet, boiling water will work better because it is not going to leave behind an oily film. On the other hand, if your gum mess is on your leather seat, oil will work a lot better. Apply the oil over the gum and use a spatula (or something similar) to slowly scrape it off.
