Homemade Fabric Softener
Homemade fabric softener may come in handy if you run out or if you are looking to save some money.
How to Make Homemade Fabric Softener
Vinegar is the most widely used ingredient in homemade fabric softener. Vinegar softens your cloths, helps with static cling and gets rid of soap residue. Some people cringe at the thought of their laundry smelling like vinegar, but don’t worry, the smell comes out. You can use straight vinegar or follow one the recipes below. These all work well but you may end up preferring one over the other. I have tried each of the recipes and was happy with the results of all of them (but the second one is my favorite). Use a 1/3 of a cup with each load.
Homemade Fabric Softener Recipe #1
- 2 parts vinegar
- 1 part water
- Essential oil (optional)
Homemade Fabric Softener Recipe #2
- 3 cups vinegar
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup Hair Conditioner
Homemade Fabric Softener Recipe #3
- 2 cups vinegar
- 1 cup baking soda
- 2 cups water
- Essential oils (optional)Instructions: In a large container, mix together your vinegar and baking soda. As you add the vinegar, your mixture will start to fizz, so make sure your mixing container is at least twice as large as the final volume. Let your mixture sit for a few minutes, allowing the baking soda to dissolve. Now add your water and essential oil (around 10 to 15 drops should do).

I keep my old vinegar bottles and fill them a 1/4 of the way up with vinegar, add a cup (or so) of cheap conditioner and then fill it the rest of the way up with water. Quick and easy. It works just as well as fabric softener and it is WAY cheaper. You should really give it a try.
