Initially introduced in Canada in 1977, Bionaire has quietly been climbing the ranks in the manufacture of affordable, high-quality air purifiers. Over the years, their line of air purifiers has continued to expand, with each air purifier having different uses and features, while remaining reasonably priced and easy to use.

Our overall favorite Bionaire air purifier is the BAP536UV-U. We love how this model offers an effective 3-stage air purification system, requires no filter changes and covers 236 sq.ft at an affordable price.

The popular Bionaire BAP536UV-U is a sleek, tower-type air purifier that stands at 29 inches tall. It uses a 3-stage air purification system that includes a permanent HEPA-type filter, UV light treatment, and an optional ionizer.

This model is capable of covering rooms up to 236 sq. ft. in size and is an affordable option for those looking to remove common household air pollutants such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, smoke, bacteria, and viruses.

One of the main selling points of the BAP536UV-U is its permanent HEPA-type filter. Because it’s permanent, you’ll never have to spend another dime on a replacement filter. It’s also highly energy-efficient, which makes the BAP536UV-U an extremely low-maintenance and economical choice. In addition, it has impressive CADR ratings  – as seen in the comparison chart below.

Unfortunately, the permanent HEPA-type filter is also one of the BAP536UV-U’s biggest downfalls. As it’s not a ‘True HEPA’ filter, you cannot expect the same high performance and efficiency when it comes to filtering out the smallest particles. Furthermore, the lack of a dedicated carbon filter means odors and VOCs will still be able to pass through its filtration system unhindered.

However, if you’re looking for an effective all-round air purifier to tackle common pollutants and allergy triggers; we think the BAP536UV-U is an excellent quality model at a modest price point.

Pros

  • Affordable (upfront and long-term)
  • Doesn’t require filter changes
  • Low maintenance
  • Impressive CADR ratings
  • Great coverage
  • Energy efficient

Cons

  • Not a True HEPA filter
  • Won’t remove odors or VOCs

The BAP756-U is large, console-type air purifier which is perfect for bigger rooms. Housed in its large frame is a powerful 4-stage air purification system consisting of a pre-filter, True HEPA filter, carbon filter treated with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, and optional ionizer.

This high-performance system is capable of removing pet dander, pollen, dust mites, mold spores, smoke, odors, and bacteria. The use of a True HEPA filter ensures it will capture 99.97% of small particles 0.03 microns or larger. It boasts a coverage of 418 sq.ft. – the largest of any model on our list and has been given a high 220 CADR rating to boot! As a further benefit, because its replacement filters come quite cheap, the BAP756-U is also affordable long-term

On the downside, this model has a large, bulky appearance that isn’t very visually pleasing. Users of this product have also complained about the loud noise it makes, even on the lowest setting. Furthermore, as it’s such a large and powerful model, the BAP756-U will have a markedly higher electricity consumption compared to the smaller air purifiers on this list.

The BAP756-U has its flaws. However, these are flaws that can easily be overlooked, especially when you consider how well it can remove air pollutants over a large area. Its high CADR ratings also make it a perfect choice if you need a highly-effective air purifier which is capable of removing airborne allergens from big rooms.

Pros

  • Uses a True HEPA filter
  • Large room coverage
  • High CADR ratings

Cons

  • Large and bulky appearance
  • Loud
  • High power consumption

The BAP600-U is a compact air purifier from Bionaire, small enough to be placed on your desk, tabletop or shelves. It uses a simple 2-stage air purification system consisting of a HEPA-type filter and optional ionizer.

What makes the BAP600-U stand out is its egg-like appearance, which can blend easily with your interior decor. Like our top pick, the BAP600-U also makes use of a permanent HEPA-type filter that you don’t have to replace. Because it’s energy-efficient too, the BAP600-U is budget-friendly both upfront and long-term. In addition, its ability to cover 112 sq. ft. is an incredible feat considering its small size.

The main disadvantage with BAP600-U is its HEPA-type filter isn’t efficient enough to remove smaller particles. In addition, it doesn’t have a dedicated carbon filter for removing odors and VOCs. Users have complained that the BAP600-U makes a considerable amount of noise, too. So you might not want to use it at night if you’re easily distracted by noises.

Overall, however, the BAP600-U remains to be a good option if you’re on a tight budget and only need a compact unit for a small room.

Pros

  • Low-priced
  • No filter changes required
  • Small and lightweight
  • Good room coverage for compact air purifier
  • Energy efficient
  • Subtle design blends into the home

Cons

  • Not a True HEPA filter
  • Doesn’t remove odors or VOCs
  • Loud operation

Final Thoughts

Overall, we believe the best Bionaire air purifier on the market today is the BAP536UV-U. What’s great about this unit is that it’s very affordable both upfront and long-term, without sacrificing its performance and appearance. Perfect for small to medium-sized rooms up to 236 sq. ft. in size, its 3-stage filtration system and great CADR ratings mean you can trust the BAP536UV-U to remove a wide array of air pollutants ranging from pollen to bacteria and viruses.

If you have a much larger space to deal with, we think the BAP756-U is your best bet. This powerful model makes use of a True HEPA filter, has an impressive coverage capacity of 418 sq.ft. and the highest CADR ratings of any model on our list. However, as this is such a large model, it’s also pretty bulky and can be quite noisy during operation – making it less suitable for an average-sized household room.

On the other hand, if you have a tight budget or would prefer a more compact and discreet air purifier, we recommend the BAP600-U. It’s unique egg-shaped design blends in well with any surrounding decor, while still offering 2-stage purification, good CADR ratings and a modest coverage of 112 sq.ft.
